Is it permissible to sell metal ore dust for a different commodity?

It is permissible to sell metal ore dust (*turab al-ma'din*) or jeweler's dust for a commodity other than its own kind. Zakat (alms) is incumbent upon the seller because it became due in his possession, analogous to selling harvested fruit after its ripening has become apparent.
