Is it permissible to use silver in vessels or similar items?

Silver is permissible in vessels and similar items when there is a need for it, defined as deriving benefit from its use in that capacity, even if another material could substitute it. This is supported by the report that the Prophet's cup was broken, and a silver chain was used to repair the crack. The view of the Qadi permits a small amount even without a specific need. The dislike noted by Ahmad pertains to using a silver ring in a vessel because it is generally used as a personal adornment.
