Book 8 · Issue 5 · Bab 3

Open in Qurani

Primary text

If two men each possess eighty sheep separately and then mix them in halves during the Hawl, upon the completion of the year, each owes one sheep. In subsequent years, they pay Zakat according to the ruling of mixture. If their Hawl periods coincide, each pays half a sheep upon the completion of their respective Hawl.

Supporting text

If their Hawl periods differ, the first to complete their Hawl owes half a sheep. When the second man's Hawl is completed, the obligation on him depends on how the first man paid his due. If the first paid the full sheep from non-Zakat wealth, the second owes forty parts out of seventy-nine parts of a sheep. If the first paid only half a sheep from the Zakat entitlement, the second owes forty parts out of seventy-nine and a half parts of a sheep.
