Is one estimator (*kharis*) sufficient for assessing produce?

One estimator is sufficient for assessing produce. This is established by the practice of the Prophet, peace be upon him, who used to send Ibn Rawahah alone to estimate, and no other person was mentioned with him. Furthermore, the estimator acts based on his independent legal reasoning (*ijtihad*), similar to a judge (*hakim*) or one who determines lineage (*qa'if*). It is required of the estimator that he be trustworthy and not subject to suspicion.
