Primary text

It is permissible to give Zakat funds to one's relatives if they fall into one of the specified categories eligible for Zakat. These categories include a relative who is a warrior fighting in the cause of Allah (Ghazian), one whose heart is to be reconciled (Mu'allaf), one who is indebted for reconciling between people (Gharim in repairing relations), or one who is an appointed Zakat collector (Amil). Giving Zakat to relatives for reasons other than these five categories is prohibited.
