If a person owns thirty cattle and prepays a Musinnah (a mature animal due as Zakah) intended for both the originals and their progeny, and ten calves are born, is the prepaid Musinnah sufficient for the thirty original cattle only, requiring a quarter Musinnah for the ten calves?
Chapter on Zakat on Sheep

Book of Zakat
Primary text
The prepaid Musinnah suffices for the thirty original cattle, and a quarter Musinnah is due on the ten calves. Alternatively, the prepaid Musinnah is held to suffice for all the stock (originals and progeny) because the calves are subsidiary to the thirty cattle in both the obligation and the Hawl; no obligation would exist on the calves without ownership of the thirty cattle.
Supporting text
The alternative view holds that the prepaid Musinnah suffices for all stock because the ten calves are subsidiary to the thirty in obligation and the Hawl.
