Primary text

The preferred payment immediately after dates is wheat, as it is more beneficial for sustenance and better meets the needs of the poor. This aligns with the statement that wheat is superior to dates in benefit and value, which Ibn Umar did not deny, only deviating to follow his Companions. The preference for wheat is supported by the general principle of favoring the most beneficial item, except where the practice of the Companions dictates otherwise (as with dates).

Supporting text

Some scholars suggest that raisins are preferred after dates because they are easier to obtain and less costly, similar to dates. However, the main argument supports wheat due to its superior nutritional value.
