Primary text

The estimation of *kharas* varies according to the type of fruit. If there is only one type, the estimator (*kharis*) encircles every palm tree or fruit tree and estimates the total amount of fresh fruit (*rutab*) or grapes. This estimate is then used to calculate the final yield of dried fruit (*tamr*). If there are different types of fruit, each type must be estimated separately because they differ in the ratio of fresh fruit to dried fruit, and the weight of each type must be known to extract the one-tenth (*'ushr*).
