Book of Zakat

Book 8 · Issue 4 · Bab 3

Open in Qurani

Primary text

If each owner's wealth was initially separate, then they mixed it, and then sold it while mixed, they must pay the Zakah due upon individual ownership for that Hawl. This is because the Zakah obligation is established by building upon the Hawl of the first, separate ownership.

Supporting text

If a person with a separate Nisab sells it for a mixed Nisab, each party must pay the Zakah of individual ownership. This is because Zakah for the second party is established by building upon the first, making them like a single wealth where separation occurred at one end.
