Chapter on Zakat on Gold and Silver
Al-Mughni
Book of Zakat
Primary text
If the treasure bears an Islamic marking—such as the name of the Prophet (peace be upon him), one of the Muslim Caliphs, a governor appointed by them, or a verse from the Quran—it is classified as lost property (Luqatah). This is because it is presumed to be the property of a Muslim from whom ownership has not been known to have ceased.
