Primary text

If a person does not possess any sheep, they are obligated to purchase one. If the requirement is for compensation (Shāh al-Jibrān), Abu Bakr opined that ten Dirhams should be paid, analogous to the value set for the compensation sheep. The primary position mandates fulfilling the requirement by giving the specific animal mentioned in the text (Shāh), as the Prophet (peace be upon him) explicitly stated the animal, and paying its cash value is impermissible, similar to when the sheep in the Nisab itself is due. The compensation payment of ten Dirhams is specific to the penalty and is not applicable as a substitution for the required sheep in the Zakat of grazing livestock.
