What is the ruling regarding treasure found in rented property?
Chapter on Zakat on Gold and Silver

Book of Zakat
Primary text
If a person rents a house and finds treasure within it, one established view is that it belongs to the finder, and another view holds it belongs to the landlord, based on differing narrations concerning treasure found on transferred property. If the renter and the landlord both claim ownership, there are two opinions: one states the landlord's claim is accepted because the burying is incidental to the land; the other states the renter's claim is accepted because the treasure is a deposit within the land, not part of it, thus the one in immediate possession holds sway, similar to textiles.
