Is a second Zakat obligatory upon wealth that has already completed one Hawl (anniversary)?
Chapter on Zakat on Crops and Fruits

Book of Zakat
Primary text
A second Zakat obligation is not incumbent upon wealth that has already completed one Hawl, even if circumstances have changed around it subsequently. This is because such wealth is not designated for future growth; rather, it is closer to diminution. Zakat is only obligatory upon growing assets so that it is taken from the growth, making it easier for the owner. If one purchases an item from this category for trade, it transforms into trade goods ('ard), upon which the Zakat of trade becomes obligatory if a full Hawl passes over it.
