What supplication should one make when paying Zakat?

It is recommended for the person paying Zakat to say, "O Allah, make it a gain (maghnam) and do not make it a debt/liability (maghram)." One should also praise Allah for the guidance provided to fulfill its payment. This is supported by the narration of Abu Hurayrah, where the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, instructed, "When you give Zakat, do not forget its reward by saying: 'O Allah, make it a gain, and do not make it a debt.'" This hadith is reported by Ibn Majah.
