Primary text

It is correct to label Sadaqah al-Fitr as 'Fard' (obligatory). If 'Fard' implies what is strictly mandatory, then it is mandatory. If 'Fard' implies what is strongly emphasized and agreed upon, then it is strongly emphasized and agreed upon, as evidenced by Ibn Umar's statement: 'The Messenger of Allah established (farada) Zakat al-Fitr' and the consensus of the scholars affirming its obligatory nature.
