What is the threshold (Nisab) for Zakat obligation on produce?
Chapter on Zakat on Crops and Fruits
Al-Mughni
Book of Zakat
Primary text
The Nisab (threshold) for Zakat on produce is considered valid as stipulated. If the amount falls below this threshold, Zakat is not incumbent. This is based on the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): "There is no charity upon less than five Wasaq." Therefore, any amount deficient from the Nisab has not reached the required measure for obligation.

If the deficiency is minor and falls within the measurements used for volume (like an ounce or similar unit), it is disregarded. Such minor discrepancies are not accounted for because they are permissible variations within volumetric measures and cannot be strictly controlled, akin to a small deficit of an hour or two in the completion of a full Hawl (one lunar year).
