If a Zakat-assessable property (Nisab) that requires the passage of a full year (Hawl) is exchanged for the same species (e.g., camel for camel), does the year count continue?

Primary text

If a Nisab whose Zakat liability is contingent upon the passage of a Hawl is exchanged for the same species—such as camels for camels, cattle for cattle, sheep for sheep, gold for gold, or silver for silver—the Hawl is not broken. The second year is built upon the first year. This is the position held by Malik.

Supporting text

Al-Shafi'i holds that the Hawl of one Nisab cannot be built upon another under any circumstances, citing the Hadith that states: 'There is no Zakat on wealth until a year passes over it.' He argues that each asset is an original entity and cannot depend on the Hawl of another, similar to cases where the species differ.
