Is Zakat due if fruits perish before *bduw al-salah* (appearance of ripeness)?
Chapter on Zakat on Crops and Fruits
Al-Mughni
Book of Zakat
Primary text
Zakat is not due on fruits if they perish before the appearance of ripeness (*bduw al-salah*). Similarly, if the owner destroys the crop before the grain hardens (*ishtidad al-habb*), Zakat is not due, as the obligation to pay Zakat had not yet been established, and the right of the poor had not become attached to the property. This situation is analogous to livestock perishing before the completion of the hawl (year).
