What is the Zakat due if one possesses twenty-five camels in Muharram and five additional camels in Safar?
Chapter on Zakat on Sheep
Al-Mughni
Book of Zakat
Primary text
If one possesses twenty-five camels in Muharram, the Zakat due upon the completion of their year, according to the first opinion, is a bint makhad, and nothing is due on the subsequent five camels. According to the second opinion, one-sixth of a bint makhad is due on the five camels upon the completion of their year. According to the third opinion, one sheep is due on the five camels.
Supporting text
If the total reaches thirty camels, the differing opinions dictate the specific obligation. For the twenty-five camels in the first opinion, a bint makhad is due upon the completion of their year, and nothing is due on the five until the year of the total thirty is complete, at which point one-fourth of a bint labun and half of one-ninth of it becomes due. For the second opinion, one-sixth of a bint makhad is due on the five when their year completes, and one-sixth of a bint labun is due on the total thirty when their year completes. For the third opinion, one sheep is due on the five when their year completes, and one sheep is due on the total thirty when their year completes, assuming additional camels were acquired in Rabi' that brought the total to thirty.
