Primary text

It is valid in one narration, which aligns with the position of Shafi'i. The validity rests upon fulfilling the obligatory quantity to the obligatory number of recipients, regardless of whether the distribution occurred over one day or two. The first narration is considered more sound (Aqwas wa Asah) because the consideration of the number of recipients is superior to the consideration of the number of days. Furthermore, if two different people provided the expiation, it would suffice, so it suffices if one person provides it.

Supporting text

Another narration states it is not valid, following Abu Hanifa's opinion, because the recipient has already received their sustenance for the day from one expiation, so a second distribution to them the same day from a different expiation is disallowed. Under this view, it only counts for one expiation. Furthermore, the recipient's right to restitution of the second payment depends on whether the giver informed them it was from a second expiation; if informed, the giver may reclaim it, otherwise not. A third view suggests no return is allowed, analogous to rulings in Zakat.
