What is the ruling on sequential fasting if a pregnant or nursing woman breaks the fast out of fear for her child?

If a pregnant or nursing woman breaks the fast out of fear for her offspring, there are two views. The first view holds that the sequence is not broken because the break is due to a licensed reason not related to her choice, similar to fasting out of fear for her own life. The second view holds that the sequence is broken because the concern is for another person, which is why atonement (Fidya) is required along with making up the fast.
