On both established opinions concerning the validity of manumission/feeding, the slave is not obligated to expiate through payment even if the master permits it. This is because the obligation for the slave is fasting, and he is not obligated to perform an alternative other than the default, similar to an indigent free person whose wealthy master permits him to pay from his own wealth.
