The statement 'You are like the back of my mother' establishes Zihar because it introduces a phrase necessitating her prohibition to him. The legal ruling (Zihar) is thus attached to her, analogous to saying 'You are divorced.'
Supporting text
Some Shafi'i scholars hold that this statement does not constitute Zihar because it contains an indication that the implication applies to his personal status. This view is invalid, as if she is likened to his mother's back, she becomes forbidden to him just as his mother's back is forbidden.
