Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 2:135

Waki’ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Wasil al-Ahdab, from Qabisah ibn Burmah, who said: I heard Ibn Mas’ud saying: "I would not like for your mu'adhdhins (callers to prayer) to be your blind men." He said: And I reckon he said: "Nor your reciters (of the Quran)."
