Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 2:253

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, that he disliked for the mu'adhdhin to take a payment for his adhan. And he said: "If he is given [something] without asking, then there is no harm."
