Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 32:16

Waki’ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Musa ibn ‘Uqbah, from Salim, from Ibn ‘Umar, from Ka’b, who said: When the angels saw the Children of Adam and what they commit of sins, they said: "O Lord, they commit sins." He said: "If you were like them, you would do as they do." So He said: "Choose two angels from among you." He said: "So they chose Harut and Marut." The Blessed and Exalted said to them: "There is a messenger between Me and the people, but there is no one between Me and you. Do not associate anything with Me, do not steal, and do not commit adultery." ‘Abdullah said: Ka’b said: They did not complete that day until they fell into what had been forbidden to them.
