Hadith 32:21
Abdullah bin Numayr and Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Isma'il bin Abi Khalid, from Qays, from Abdullah, who said: While a man from those who were before you was among a disbelieving people, and there were righteous people among them, he said: "I have remained in my disbelief for a long time; I will certainly go to this righteous village and become a man from its people." So he set out, but death overtook him. The angel and the devil disputed over him. The devil said, "I am more entitled to him," and the angel said, "I am more entitled to him." Then Allah sent some of His soldiers [angels] to them, and He said to them, "Measure what is between the two villages; whichever of them he was closer to, he is from its people." They measured what was between them and found him closer to the righteous village, so he was from them.
حدثنا عبد الله بن نمير وأبو أسامة عن إسماعيل بن أبي خالد عن قيس عن عبد الله قال بينما رجل ممن كان قبلكم كان في قوم كفار وكان فيما بينهم قوم صالحون قال فطالما كنت في كفري لآتين هذه القرية الصالحة فأكونن رجلا من أهلها فانطلق فأدركه الموت فاحتج فيه الملك والشيطان يقول هذا أنا أولى به ويقول هذا أنا أولى به إذ قيض الله بعض جنوده فقال لهما قيسوا ما بين القريتين فأيتهما كان أقرب إليها فهو من أهلها فقاسوا ما بينهما فوجدوه أقرب إلى القرية الصالحة فكان منهم
