Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 32:23

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, from Hammam ibn Yahya, who said: Qatada narrated to us, from Safwan ibn Muhriz, who said: I was holding the hand of Abdullah ibn Umar when a man came to him and said: "How did you hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) speak regarding the private conversation (al-najwa)?" He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Indeed, Allah will bring the believer close on the Day of Resurrection until He places His shelter (kanaf) over him, screening him from the people. He will say: 'O My servant, do you recognize such-and-such sin, and such-and-such sin?' He will say: 'Yes, O my Lord.' Until, when He has made him acknowledge his sins and he sees within himself that he is ruined, He will say: 'I indeed screened them for you in the world, and I have forgiven them for you today.' Then, his book of good deeds will be given to him." "As for the disbelievers and the hypocrites, the witnesses will say: 'These are the ones who lied against their Lord. Unquestionably, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers.'"
