Hadith 24:142
Isma'il ibn 'Ulayyah narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, who said: I came to Asma' after the killing of 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr. She said: "It has reached me that they crucified 'Abdullah upside down and hung a cat with him. By Allah, I wished that I would not die until he was handed over to me, so that I could wash him, apply embalming substances (hunut) to him, shroud him, and then bury him." It was not long before a letter came to them from 'Abd al-Malik that he should be handed over to his family. He said: So I brought him to Asma', and she washed him, applied embalming substances to him, shrouded him, and then buried him.
