Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 24:147

Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: Isma'il narrated to us, he said: Qays informed us, he said: Umar said: "Will you not inform me of your two dwelling places? And along with this, I am not asking you, but I am discerning in your faces which of the two dwelling places is better." He said: So Jarir said to him: "I will inform you, O Commander of the Faithful. As for one of the dwelling places, it is the nearest palm grove in the Sawad to the land of the Arabs. As for the other dwelling place, it is the land of Persia, and its heat, and its cold, and its humidity"—meaning al-Mada'in. He said: So Ammar contradicted me and said: "You have lied." So Umar said: "You are a greater liar." Then Umar said: "Will you not inform me about this commander of yours? Is he a deserter?" I said: "By Allah, he is not a deserter, nor has he ever been, nor is he knowledgeable of politics." So he dismissed him and sent al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba.
