Hadith 24:23
Mu'awiyah led us in the Friday prayer at al-Nukhaylah during the forenoon, then he delivered a sermon to us and said: "I did not fight you so that you would pray, nor so that you would fast, nor so that you would perform Hajj, nor so that you would pay Zakat, for I know that you do that. Rather, I only fought you so that I might have authority over you, and Allah has granted me that while you are averse to it."
حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن عمرو بن مرة عن سعيد بن سويد قال صلى بنا معاوية الجمعة بالنخيلة في الضحى ثم خطبنا فقال ما قاتلتكم لتصلوا ولا لتصوموا ولا لتحجوا ولا لتزكوا وقد أعرف أنكم تفعلون ذلك ولكن إنما قاتلتكم لأتأمر عليكم وقد أعطاني الله ذلك وأنتم له كارهون
