Hadith 24:24

Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Habib, from Hudhayl ibn Shurahbil, who said: Mu'awiyah addressed them and said: "O people, you have pledged allegiance to me willingly, and had you pledged allegiance to a mutilated Abyssinian slave, I would have come to pledge allegiance to him along with you." He said: When he descended from the pulpit, 'Amr ibn al-'As said to him: "Do you know what you have brought forth today? You claimed that the people pledged allegiance to you willingly, and that had they pledged allegiance to a mutilated Abyssinian slave, you would have come to pledge allegiance to him along with them." He said: So Mu'awiyah stood up to the pulpit and said: "O people, and was there anyone more entitled to this matter than I?"
