Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 24:39

Jarir ibn Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, from Mughira, from Simak ibn Salama, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Isma, who said: I was with Aisha when a messenger from Mu'awiya came to her with a gift. He said, "The Commander of the Faithful has sent this." She accepted his gift. When the messenger left, we said, "O Mother of the Faithful, are we not believers, and is he not our commander?" She said, "You are, if Allah wills, the believers, and he is your commander."
