Hadith 24:48
Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: Hisham narrated to us, from his father, who said: Qays ibn 'Ubadah was with 'Ali, [leading] his vanguard, and with him were five thousand [men] who had shaved their heads after 'Ali died. When al-Hasan entered into a pledge of allegiance with Mu'awiyah, Qays refused to enter [into it]. He said to his companions: "Whatever you wish; if you wish, I will fight alongside you forever until the one who is to die sooner dies, and if you wish, I will obtain a guarantee of safety for you." They said to him: "Obtain a guarantee of safety for us." So he obtained for them that they would have such and such, and that they would not be punished for anything. A man among them came, and he [Qays] did not obtain anything for himself. When they departed toward Medina and he went on with his companions, he began to slaughter a camel for them every day until he reached...
حدثنا أبو أسامة قال حدثنا هشام عن أبيه قال كان قيس بن عبادة مع علي مقدمته ومعه خمسة آلاف قد حلقوا رؤوسهم بعد ما مات علي فلما دخل الحسن في بيعة معاوية أبى قيس أن يدخل فقال لأصحابه ما شئتم إن شئتم جالدت بكم أبدا حتى يموت الأعجل وإن شئتم أخذت لكم أمانا فقالوا له خذ لنا أمانا فأخذ لهم أن لهم كذا وكذا ولا يعاقبوا بشيء وأتى رجل منهم ولم يأخذ لنفسه شيئا فلما ارتحلوا نحو المدينة ومضى بأصحابه جعل ينحر لهم كل يوم جزورا حتى بلغ
