Hadith 24:8
Husayn ibn Ali narrated to us, from Abu Musa, who said: Al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba said to Ali, "Write to these two men regarding their appointment over Kufa and Basra"—meaning al-Zubayr and Talha—"and write to Mu'awiya regarding his appointment over al-Sham, for he will be satisfied with you because of that." Ali said, "I would not give cause for suspicion in my religion." He said: Then, after some time, al-Mughira met Mu'awiya, and Mu'awiya said to him, "Are you the author of that suggestion?" He said, "Yes. But by Allah, no one averted its evil except Allah."
حدثنا حسين بن علي عن أبي موسى قال قال المغيرة بن شعبة لعلي أكتب إلى هذين الرجلين بعهدهما إلى الكوفة والبصرة يعني الزبير وطلحة واكتب إلى معاوية بعهده إلى الشام فإنه سيرضى منك بذلك قال قال علي لم أكن أعطي الريبة في ديني قال فلما كان بعد لقي المغيرة معاوية فقال له معاوية أنت صاحب الكلمة قال نعم أم والله ما وقى شرها إلا الله
