Hadith 24:91
Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, he said: Al-Awam ibn Hawshab informed us, from Ibrahim, the freed slave of Sakhr, from Abu Wa'il, who said: Al-Hajjaj sent for me, so I arrived to him in Al-Ahwaz. He said to me: "What do you have of the Quran?" I said: "That which, if I follow it, it suffices me." He said: "I want to seek your help in some of my work." I said: "If you force me, I will plunge [into it], but if you place [the responsibility] on someone else, I fear the 'inner linings of evil' (the corrupt inner circle)." Al-Hajjaj said: "By Allah, if you have said that, then the 'inner linings of evil' are indeed the corruption of a man." I said: "I have not ceased fearing tonight on my bed, fearing that you might kill me." He said: "And for what would I kill you? By Allah, if you have said that, I do not kill a man for a matter regarding which those before me feared to kill [someone] for the like of it."
حدثنا يزيد بن هارون قال أخبرنا العوام بن حوشب عن إبراهيم مولى صخر عن أبي وائل قال بعث إلي الحجاج فقدمت عليه الأهواز قال لي ما معك من القرآن قال قلت ما ان اتبعته كفاني قال إني أريد أن أستعين بك على بعض عملي قال قلت أن تقحمني أقتحم وأن تجعل في غيري خفت بطائن السوء قال فقال الحجاج والله لئن قلت ذاك أن بطائن السوء لمفسدة الرجل قال قلت ما زلت اتخوف الليلة على فراشي مخافة أن تقتلني قال وعلى ما أقتلك أما والله لئن قلت ذاك إني لا أقتل الرجل على أمر قد كان من قبلي يهاب القتل على مثله
