Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 16:1044

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Safwan bin Isa narrated to us, from Abd al-A’la bin Abdullah bin Abi Farwah, he said: I asked Sa’id bin al-Musayyib, I said: "A man [has] in his ring [an engraving] like the head of a bird." He said: "O son of my brother, we do not know of anyone among the companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who wore a ring—neither Abu Bakr, nor Umar, nor so-and-so, nor so-and-so," until he counted a number of the companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. I repeated [the question] to him several times, and it was as if he disliked the ring.
