Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 16:1059

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from ‘Alqamah, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, who said: I was informed by Hattan ibn ‘Abd Allah, who said: A companion of mine came to me and called out to me, so I looked out at him. He said: "The letter of the Commander of the Faithful was read to us, in which he commands anyone who has a curtain hung in his house containing images to put it away." I disliked that I should spend the night as a disobedient person, so we stood up to a curtain of ours and I put it away. Muhammad said: They did not consider what was stepped upon and spread out of images to be like that which was hung up.
