Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Affan narrated to us, he said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, he said: Sa’id al-Jurayri informed us, from Abu Uthman al-Nahdi, that Umar ibn al-Khattab called for a blade to cut the sleeve of Utbah ibn Farqad’s shirt from his fingertips, and he was wearing a Sunbulani shirt. He [Utbah] said: "I will suffice you of it, O Commander of the Faithful, for I am shy that you should cut it in front of the people." So he left him.
