Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Mu'tamir narrated to us, from 'Abbad al-Mazini, from Abu Mijlaz, who said: The companions of Ibn Mas'ud cut the *burd* (garment). He said: A man would feel ashamed to come in a lowly cloak or a lowly garment. He said: Then 'Abd al-Rahman appeared in an *'abaya* (cloak), and he appeared in it again on the third day. Then the people began to return (to wearing simple clothing).
