Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 16:82

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abu Usama narrated to us, from Hisham, from al-Hasan, he said: The companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to eat the meat of horses during their military expeditions.
