Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 33:1157

'Abbad narrated to us, from 'Awf, from Abu al-Minhal, that Abu al-'Aliyah saw a man performing ablution. When he finished, he said: "O Allah, make me of the repentant and make me of those who are purified." He (Abu al-'Aliyah) said: "Indeed, purification from water is good, but they are the ones purified from sins."
