Hawdha ibn Khalifa narrated to us, he said: Awf narrated to us, from Abu al-Ward ibn Thumama, from Wahb ibn Munabbih, who said: There were young men among the Children of Israel, mature in their understanding, who had read the Scripture and possessed knowledge. They sought honor and wealth through their recitation. They introduced innovations through which they obtained honor and wealth in the world, so they went astray and led many others astray.
