Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us, from Abu Farwah, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, who said: Some people from the people of Iraq came to 'Umar, and he saw as if they were eating excessively. He said: "What is this, O people of Iraq? If I wished that it be refined for me as it is refined for you, I would have done so. But we preserve from our worldly life just as we find it in our Hereafter." "Have you not heard Allah say: 'You have exhausted your good things in your worldly life and enjoyed them'?"
