Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 33:287

Abu Usama narrated to us, from al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam al-Nakha'i, who said: My mother narrated to me, from Umm 'Uthman, a slave-mother (umm walad) of 'Ali, who said: I came to 'Ali while there was a heap of saffron (qaranful) before him in the courtyard (al-rahba). I said: "O Commander of the Faithful, grant my daughter a necklace from this saffron." He said—and he tapped with his hands—: "Show me a good dirham. For this is the wealth of the Muslims. Otherwise, be patient until our share of it comes to us, and we will grant your daughter a necklace from it."
