Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 33:443

Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Al-A’mash narrated to us, from Shamir, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, who said: Salman came to Abu al-Darda’ and did not find him, so he greeted Umm al-Darda’ and said: "Where is my brother?" She said: "In the mosque." He had a Qatwani cloak on him. She threw a worn-out cushion toward him, but he refused to sit on it. He folded his turban and threw it down, then sat on it. He said: Then Abu al-Darda’ came, carrying meat [he had bought] for two dirhams. Umm al-Darda’ stood up, cooked it, and baked bread, then brought the food. Abu al-Darda’ was fasting. Salman said: "Who will eat with me?" He said: "Umm al-Darda’ will eat with you." He did not leave him until he broke his fast. Salman said to Umm al-Darda’—and he saw her in a poor state—: "What is the matter with you?" She said: "Your brother does not desire women; he fasts the day and stands [in prayer] the night." He spent the night with him. Abu al-Darda’ began to want to stand [for prayer], but he [Salman] held him back until it was before dawn. Then he stood, performed ablution, and prayed some rak'ahs. Abu al-Darda’ said to him: "You have kept me from my prayer." Salman said to him: "Pray, sleep, fast, and break your fast; for your family has a right over you, and your eyes have a right over you."
