Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 33:470

Abu Usama narrated to us, from Ibn 'Awn, from Muhammad, who said: A man came to Mu'adh ibn Jabal, with his companions, greeting him, bidding him farewell, and advising him. Mu'adh said to him: "I am advising you with two matters; if you preserve them, you will have preserved what your companions said to you. You have no independence from your share of the world, yet you are in greater need of your share of the Hereafter. So, prefer your share of the Hereafter over your share of the world, for it will bring you to, or pass you by, your share of the world, and it will organize it for you in an orderly fashion, and it will move with you wherever you move."
