Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 33:480

Waki’ narrated to us, from Fudayl ibn Ghazwan, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurayrah, that a man from the Ansar had a guest, and he did not have anything except his own sustenance and the sustenance of his children. He said to his wife, "Put the children to sleep and extinguish the lamp." He said: Then this verse was revealed: "And they give preference over themselves, even though they are in need. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul, then those are the successful."
