Waki’ narrated to us, from Qurrah ibn Khalid al-Sadusi, from Humayd ibn Hilal al-Adawi, from Khalid ibn Umayr al-Adawi, who said: And Waki’ narrated to us, from Abu Na’amah, who heard it from Khalid ibn Umayr, who said: Utbah ibn Ghazwan addressed us—Abu Na’amah said: "upon the minbar," and Qurrah did not say it—and he said: "Behold, the world has announced its departure and has turned away swiftly, and there remains of it nothing but the dregs like the dregs of a vessel. You are in a home from which you are moving, so move with the best of what you have with you. I have seen myself as the seventh of seven with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and we had no food to eat except the leaves of trees, until our jawbones became ulcerated." Qurrah said: "And I found a cloak." Abu Na’amah said: "I picked up a cloak and tore it into two halves; I wore half of it and gave Sa’d half of it. And there is not one of those seven alive today except that he is an amir (governor) over one of the cities. And you shall surely test the amirs after me. And by Allah, it was never prophethood but that it was succeeded by kingship and tyranny. And it has been mentioned to me—Qurrah said: 'that a stone'—and Abu Na’amah said: 'that a boulder—is thrown from the edge of Hell, and it falls to its bottom.' Qurrah said: 'I think he said seventy,' and Abu Na’amah said: 'seventy autumns.' And the distance between the two leaves of the doors of Paradise is a journey of forty years, and there shall surely come upon the doors of Paradise a day when there is not a single door among them but that it is crowded. And I seek refuge in Allah from being great in my own self and small in the sight of Allah."
