Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 33:584

Abu Usama narrated to us, from Ibn 'Awn, from Abu Bishr, from Jundub ibn 'Abd Allah al-Bajali, then al-Basri, who said: I sought permission to enter upon Hudhayfah three times, but he did not grant me permission, so I turned back. Then his messenger caught up with me and said, "What turned you back?" I said, "I thought you were asleep." He said, "I would not sleep until I see from where the sun rises." He said: I narrated this to Muhammad, and he said, "More than one of the companions of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, have done that."
